Smart Accessories, Quietly

On the wearables that don't shout — haute-horlogerie chronographs, leather-cased e-readers, gold-tipped earbuds.

The best smart accessory is the one nobody notices is smart. A skeleton-dial mechanical chronograph on black alligator carries the day; the silicone fitness band, regrettably, carries the gym.

An e-reader belongs in a saddle-leather case from Pelle Tessuta or Bottega. The screen is the technology; the case is the apology for it.

Earbuds have become jewelry whether we like it or not. Choose gold-tipped Devialet Gemini or the matte-ceramic Bang & Olufsen EX over anything plastic — the case sits on the table at dinner, and it should earn its place there.

The rule, as always: if the object looks at home next to a hand-thrown ceramic bowl and a sprig of olive, keep it. If it looks at home next to a charging cable graveyard, do not.
